What are Piston Diaphragm Pumps?

Piston diaphragm pumps. also known as diaphragm metering pumps, are a type of positive displacement pumps that combine the features of both piston and diaphragm pumps. These pumps are designed to move fluids with high precision and are commonly used in applications that require accurate dosing and metering of liquids.

How do Piston Diaphragm Pumps Work?

A piston diaphragm pump features a piston driven by an electric motor or air actuator, which moves back and forth, pushing and pulling a flexible diaphragm. This movement creates a vacuum that draws fluid into the pump chamber. Check valves at the inlet and outlet ensure the fluid flows in the correct direction. When the diaphragm moves back, the inlet valve opens, allowing fluid to enter the chamber. When the diaphragm moves forward, the inlet valve closes, and the outlet valve opens, pushing the fluid out of the chamber.

The diaphragm acts as a barrier, separating the fluid being pumped from the moving parts of the pump. This design prevents contamination and makes the pump suitable for handling corrosive or hazardous fluids. The precise control of the piston and diaphragm allows for accurate dosing of fluids, making piston diaphragm pumps ideal for applications requiring precise fluid metering.
